Awakening Krishna Consciousness
Krishna consciousness is the natural state of the living being. Every soul is eternally related to Krishna, but through contact with the material world this original awareness becomes covered. As a result, one identifies with the temporary body and mind and becomes absorbed in the struggles of material existence.
The Bhagavad-gita teaches that real knowledge begins when one understands, “I am not this body; I am spirit soul.” From that point, spiritual life truly begins. By turning our attention toward Krishna through hearing about Him, remembering Him, and chanting His holy names, the heart becomes purified and our dormant love for God is gradually revived.
